Georgia USAG Board Meeting
Sunday, June 17, 2007 - Region 8 Congress - Atlanta, GA

Present:  Peggy Simpson, Brock White, Gwyned Bius, Drew Davis, Judy Miller, Michelle Pomerantz, Chris Calvert, Patty Horak, Kim Wood, Jacobo Giron, Sheila Ragle, Becky Oppenheimer
Absent:  Dennis Hayden

Peggy Simpson, Georgia Chair, called the meeting to order at 12:45 p.m.

  1. Confidentiality Forms - The Board will be asked to sign Confidentiality Forms when presented.
  2. Compulsory State Meets:
    • Team finals will be held at Level 5 and Level 6 State (Judy/Gwyned) Level 2 will compete with Level 6 and Level 3 will compete with Level 4 (Sheila/Michelle)
      • State Meet Sites:
        • Level 5 - Roswell Rec (Michelle/Chris)
        • Level 3 and 4 - Gymnastix (Chris/Becky)
        • Level 2 and 6 - TBA when contract for site is received.
      • For a state meet to be held, there must be a minimum of 24 qualified and entered (Patty/Drew)
      • Gate fees:
        • Child Under 3 - free
        • Children Under 12 - $4 in gym or at another facility
        • Adults - $8 in gym and $10 at another facility
        • Senior Citizens (over 65) - $4 regardless (Becky/Jacobo)
      • Entries:
        • Per individual, $65 in gym, $75 at another facility (Kim/Michelle)
      • Team:
        • $60 for meet entry and $60 for team finals (Michelle/Kim)
      • Team finals - 6 will compete and 4 will count for team score - 8 teams (Kim/Gwyned)
      • 4 scores will count to qualify to team finals as well (Sheila/Jacobo) at Level 5 and 6 – For Level 2, 3 and 4, only 3 scores will count (Becky/Kim)
      • Qualifying scores to all compulsory meets - 32.00 AA two times (Michelle/Drew)
      • Qualifying date deadlines:
        • Level 2 and 6 - November 5, 2007
        • Level 5 - November 19, 2007
        • Level 4 and 3 - November 26, 2007
      • The Meet Entry Deadline will continue to be 3 weeks prior to the state meet.
      • For all compulsory levels, the gymnast must compete in three meets at the compulsory level prior to the state meet from August 1, 2007 to the qualifying deadline for that meet (Becky/Patty). There will be a petition process in place as well.
      • Michelle and Drew will work to draw up an “ethics” letter to be included in the next newsletter.
  3. Level 8/9/10 State Meet - Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta on March 28, 29 and 30 (Michelle/Becky) passed with a 6 to 5 majority.
  4. The Level 7 State Meet - Ultimate Gymnastics (Gwyned/Drew) - there will be no event finals held (Judy/Jacobo)
  5. Apparel - the apparel will remain the same as in 2006-07 with a charity to be chosen by the gymnasts. Last year $5,000 was donated to Camp Sunshine, sending 10 children to summer camp.
  6. The Board will send flowers to Rich Johnson (cancer) and Diane Still (cancer). Brock White will order and send the flowers.
  7. Drew and Sheila will provide input to future GA-USA/GA-NAWGJ clinics and work with the GA-NAWGJ Judges’ Training Chair.
  8. State Meet Draws:
    • Level 2 and 6 - Chris Calvert
    • Level 5 - Becky Oppenheimer
    • Level 3 and 4 - Judy Prestigiacomo
    • Level 7 - Sheila Ragle
    • Level 8/9/10 - Peggy Simpson
  9. Kim Wood, new Awards Chair, will decide on something different to be awarded - this will be determined at the next Board meeting. She will contact Debbie Roe for further information.
  10. TOPs - there was one test in June and another will be held on July 21 and the new tests are much more difficult.
  11. The Board will decide on a member who will revamp our website to include more information on how our gymnasts score, dates important to all members, etc. This will be a non-voting member.
  12. On November 9-10-11 there will be a national Level 5-6-7 state team competition - our state will consider this for 2008-09.
  13. On January 4-5-6 the NAWGJ will host a Level 7 Judges Cup in San Diego, CA. Interested Level 7 gymnasts will compete at the Georgia All-Star Outersquad in December for 6 places. The Georgia USA Board will provide the team leotard but all expenses will fall to the gymnasts who participate.
  14. At Level 8, 9 and 10, event specialists may compete at the state meet and qualify to Regionals on their event. The gymnasts may not drop back a level to qualify. Further details will be discussed at the next meeting.
  15. The Georgia USA Board will discuss paying national entry fees for Level 9’s qualifying to Easterns and Level 10’s qualifying to Nationals. Further details will be discussed at our next meeting.

The next Board Meeting will be Friday, September 7, 2007 at Roswell Rec Center.
